Abstract:
Academic Libraries have a close relationship with learning, research and influencing the academic fields. This is done through the range of information services and resources they offer that support academic learning, research and studying. As indicated in most studies, academic libraries in developing countries have a problem of low user levels and usage of library resources. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of NIPA Library in the delivery of information services to its users. The specific objectives of the study were; to find out the information services offered by NIPA library to its users; to determine the levels of satisfaction among students on information services offered by library; to ascertain the degree to which the library’s environment was suitable for studying. The study used both quantitative and qualitative method to collect and analyses data. 100 students from deferent program were sampled using snowball sampling and 1 key-informant using purposive sampling. The major findings revealed
that NIPA library provided internet, reference, current awareness, borrowing and lending, browsing and searching, user orientation, marketing, serials and periodical, computer-laboratory for research and the assignment desk information services. Findings also showed that the Most of respondents were satisfied with most of the services the library offered. The study environment was suitable for the library is suitably located, had good lighting, well ventilated and had adequate charging sockets. The study concluded that the library was effective to a higher extent. Furthermore, it was recommended that the library should improve on the marketing of library services to enable the users to be fully aware of all that the library offers.
