The study was conducted at The Lusaka City Council Public Library, and the objective of the study was to investigate the social and economic benefits young adults derive from their usage of the Lusaka City Council Public Library. The study also sought to investigate the extent to which young adults use the Lusaka City Council Public Library, to establish the kind of services and information resources young adults’ use at the Lusaka City Council Public Library and to investigate the benefits young adults obtain from using the Lusaka City Council Public Library. The population included male and female young adults at the selected library. The data was collected using a questionnaire for the young adult, and it was presented in numeric tables and percentages. The data was analyzed and summarized in numeric value and percentages with some in depth narrative information for understanding the results. The findings of the study revealed that the young adults visited the library on a daily basis to read their own books and that the majority of these were males. Further, it revealed that very few young adults visited the library for research purposes, to access Internet and to read books provided by the library. The study further revealed that the majority of the young adults were satisfied with the membership fee of the library and lastly, the study revealed that; the young adults visited the Lusaka City Council Public Library because it is a very safe and quiet place for studying and reading, also that it’s centrally located and that the membership fee is very affordable. |
